Week of September 4

I see a lot of you don't like working in your Math journals.  I will try my best to make it a little more exciting.  I think it's important that you do word problems because you will see a lot of them on the K-PREP in May!

When adding numbers together what is one way to be sure that you got the correct answer? You may THINK you got the correct answer when you added but how can you be 100% positive that you are right?

By double checking my answer to the side.
And to make sure im 100% sure is i could subtract the answer by the lower number to see if i get the other number in the problem..

  2. If you want to be sure your answer is correct, take your answer you get and make an addition problem with your answer on top and add the bottom number from the question and it should add up to the top number of the question.

  3. To make sure its right. You take the answer and subtract one of the numbers you added from it to see if the answer to the subtraction is the other number you added. If it is you know you got the answer right.

You can look back and add it again.

Look back and read it again. You do the opposite of addition which is subtraction.

If I have a problem, and I do it, but I'm not 100% positve that it's correct, I'll at first worry I won't get a perfect score.
But, then I'll check back and realise I can do something else, I'll check my answer again, and if that don't work, I'll take the answer, than subtract it to a number, than see if that's correct.
